The cottages were extensively and sensitively refurbished in 2010. We have made every effort to retain the charm, character and original features of these cottages. Guests need to be aware that ceilings are low and that there is an original steep “ship’s stairs” between the two floors which is not suitable for persons with disabilities and young children.
A small entrance hall leads to a lounge with dining area to one side and a kitchen to the other. In Cottage 2, the dining room is situated within the kitchen. All main rooms have sea views and there are beamed ceilings throughout, many of which are old ship’s timbers. The kitchen has newly fitted units and electric appliances including a cooker, fridge/freezer, micro-wave oven, toaster and iron and ironing board. The bathroom, which comprises a bath and overhead shower, sink and W.C., is on the ground floor. Cottage 1 has the benefit of a conservatory.
An original ship’s stairs leads to the two bedrooms upstairs. Please note that one bedroom leads into the other bedroom, there is no landing between the bedrooms. There is a double bed and twin beds in each cottage, sleeping 4 people. Duvets, pillows and blankets are provided, but linen – sheets, duvet covers, towels, tea towels etc are not provided.
There is a laundry/utility room at the back of Cottage 2, which has an additional shower, washing machine and tumbler dryer. These facilities are for the use of occupants of both cottages. An outside hosepipe is supplied for washing down pets.
There is a narrow, unmade, private road with a sharp bend leading down to the cottages. This should only be attempted by experienced drivers and in daylight. Alternative parking is available within 3 minutes walk of the cottages if preferred. There is sufficient parking for two cars at the side of the cottages. Street lighting in Solva cannot always be relied on. A torch is advisable when walking back after a night out.
Please note we do not supply any bed linen or towels. Visitors will need to bring their own sheets, duvet covers (for one double bed and two single beds), towels, tea towels etc.
A heater in each lounge provides complimentary background heating. Additional heating is by means of wall mounted electric convector heaters and a recently installed wood-burner in each lounge.
Electricity is metered and on a “pay as you use” basis. The meters take £1 coins. The meters are set at the basic rate charged by the electricity supplier.
We are one of very few self-catering lettings, which continue to accept dogs.
We can only continue offering this service if dog-owners adhere to our rules for the benefit of all our clients …… and cleaners.
• We allow a maximum of two small dogs at an extra cost of £20 per dog.
• The dogs should be well behaved and should not be allowed on furniture.
• The cottages are unfamiliar territory so dogs should not be left in the cottages unattended.
• Pets must not be washed in the baths or shower of the cottages. A short hose-pipe, attached to a water tap at the back of the laundry room has been provided for the purpose of washing pets.
• We kindly ask dog owners to vacuum carpets on a regular basis during their stay to curb the amount of inevitable hair.
We kindly ask guests with pets to comply with these requirements.
